How To Find Greatest Common Factor Of Monomials

Greatest Common Gene of Monomials

How to find the greatest mutual factor (GCF) of two or more monomials in maths? Grade 11 maths questions are presented along with Detailed Solutions and explanations are included.

What is the greatest mutual cistron (GCF) of monomials?

The greatest mutual factor of two or more monomials is the greatest monomial that divides evenly into all these monomials. It is institute by starting time finding the prime factorization
Prime number Factorization of each monomial.

Instance 1

Find greatest common factor of the monomials 12 x and 18 x 2 .
Solution
1) Write the prime factorization of the monomial 12
10 : 12 ten = 2 2 iii x
ii) Write the prime factorization of the monomial 18
ten ii : 18 x two = 2 3 iii 10 10
The greatest of the mutual gene (GCF) of 12
ten and 18 x ii is the product of all common factors in the prime factorization above:

GCF(12 x,xviii ten 2) = 2 3 x = 6 x

Example two

Find greatest common factor of the monomials 30 x 2 y 3 , 42 ten 3 y 2 and 18 x 2 y 2
Solution
1) Write the prime factorization of the monomial 30
x 2 y iii = 2 iii 5 x xy y y
2) Write the prime factorization of the monomial 42
x 3 y ii = 2 three 7 10 x x y y
3) Write the prime factorization of the monomial 18
ten 2 y 2 = ii 3 3 x 10y y
The greatest of the mutual cistron (GCF) of 30
x 2 y 3 , 42 x three y 2 and eighteen x 2 y 2 is the production of all mutual factors in the prime factorization in a higher place:

GCF(xxx10 2 y iii, 42x 3 y 2 and 18 ten two y 2) = 2 three x x y y = 6 x 2 y two
